Jire-Saal Rice is well-known variety in southern part of India. It resembles Kolam rice in some way. Originally, this rice was farmed in certain areas of Kolhapur as well as the Konkan regions. It works well for cooking biryani and pulao because it isn’t sticky.

Although it appears to be small-grain rice at first, the grain doubles in size during cooking.
